Being a celebrant is the best job

I love being a celebrant! It’s such a privilege to create joyful bespoke celebrations of love and of life.
Have you always been a celebrant?
No, until a few years ago I was teaching in a local sixth form college. It was a rewarding and people-focussed job, and certainly helped me to hone my communication skills.
Why did you decide to become a celebrant?
Honestly, I thought I’d be good at it.
I’m a confident public speaker and the prospect of creating bespoke, uplifting ceremonies to showcase unique relationships appealed to me. When it was time for a change, I signed up to train with Humanists UK, and I haven’t looked back.
Why Humanists UK?
They’ve been marking big life events in the UK since 1896, and their inclusive approach aligns perfectly with mine – offering couples and families non-religious ceremonies which are warm, welcoming and meaningful.
What else do you do?
Being a celebrant is now my main job, but outside work I enjoy walking and running in the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside. I volunteer as a governor at a nearby primary school and at community events in my neighbourhood.
